On April 28, 29, and 30, 2017, OhioDance, the state-wide dance network organization, will co-sponsor its regional festival with BalletMet Columbus. There are many classes, workshops, discussions and performances over the three days. The Sessions will be held at the studios and performance space at BalletMet, 322 Mt. Vernon Ave, Columbus, OH. Festival is inherently creative as the brightest talents in dance converge on Columbus to share new ideas and innovations in the field of dance.
I will be offering a class titled: Improvisation with an eye for Composition. We will use improvisational tools to generate and analyze movement -applying compositional elements to create dance “in the moment.” Class will be for ages 13+
Artist Josh Hines and I were invited to do a short week long residency at Purdue University in their Division of Dance. April 1st- April 7th we will be hosting workshops throughout the week in place of students normal classes. We were also invited to participate in the Xperimental concert. A concept first created by Holly Jaycox, designed to push students to think outside of standard proscenium mindset when approaching choreography. Along with performing our own improvised duet, we will be setting work on a group of students based in an improvisation score, but created in the moment in collaboration with those students. We are thrilled for this opportunity and are glad to be making new connections with dancers and non dancers alike. Thank you to Holly Jaycox and faculty for extending the invitation to us.
There will be a mini GLACIER hosted in Lafeyette, Indiana this coming December 3rd and 4th. What started as small jam is now a small retreat for movers, dancers and contact improvisation lovers. Click on the invitation below:
Come join Josh Ramsey Hines and I! We will be making our way to enjoy this fabulous, condensed version of our GLACIER experience in Wisconsin and we hope to see you there.
Please take a look at the Glacier website for more information on Contact Improvisation, on local jams you can participate in and upcoming events that bring jammers, improvisers and contact enthusiasts together to gather thoughts, insight and groove.
Contact Improvisation is an open-ended exploration of the kinaesthetic possibilities of bodies moving through contact. Sometimes wild and athletic, sometimes quiet and meditative, it is a form open to all bodies and enquiring minds.

On November 4th I will be hosting, facilitating a dance/ movement/ improvisation class @ FEVERHEAD in Grandview, Ohio. The class will explore guided improvisation, play with different movement scores, and work with spoken word or text. No experience is needed, just willingness in mind and body!
Come with the mindset of play and experimentation and if you’d like to…. come with a piece of text that already speaks to you or resonates in your mind, body and bones!! Otherwise, I will bring some to play with as well!
Hope to see you there.
Fee: $10-15 sliding scale ( OR pay what you can)
